Review of IMESS 2019

Beginning in the year 2016, the IMESS 2019 is the 4th iteration ever organized by Penang Skills Development Center (PSDC). Since the first ever IMESS, we have always participate as part of the sponsor and exhibitor of the event. We believe that IMESS is a great platform for local industry to connect. Who knows what potential and opportunity will arise from these connections? For this year, it turns out to be great!

Awaiting a keynote session

So what is IMESS?

IMESS stands for International Microwave, Electron Devices, Solid-State Circuit Symposium. It is a 2-days event organized by the IEEE Malaysia ED/MTT/SSC Penang Joint Chapter. It is the first such symposium organized in Penang where participants can join totally FREE of charge. Speakers from all around Malaysia, and outside of Malaysia shares on topics such as 5G, IoT and Industry 4.0. These speakers are not only from academia but also from the industries, where they would setup exhibitions showcasing what they have to offer.

This year FILPAL together with our channel partner Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) decided to become the platinum sponsor of the event, because we believe in the potential of meeting people from our local industries, in line with our passion of providing close-to-home solution for local industries. To spice things up this year, since we are the platinum sponsors, we decided to make our exhibition more elaborated this year.

More Products, New Website

In the previous IMESS, we usually only showcase our flagship software product, the FILPAL EDS. But what many do not know is that besides the software that we develop, a big part of FILPAL operation is dedicated to design and manufacturing of our hardware products. This year, we showcase the full range of products that we have to offer, such as the FILSAT 5G coexistence filters, the MANTA military-grade lowpass filter and the BTS bandpass filters. all these products displayed are designed by FILPAL and manufactured locally. This means that many of these products have real competitive pricing in the local market. We are glad to say that the response from the industry is good! Looking forward to be able to partner with many more local industries in the upcoming months.

IMESS 2019 was also our opportunity to showcase our new website, now up-to-date with the many products we got to offer, all designed with a modern UI. We are hoping that the new website would help us get connected with many more people, and to allow the world to better connect with us. Who knows what opportunities can it bring?

Design Challenge

In conjunction with the symposium, this year we also organized our first ever Design Challenge Competition. The design challenge is an effort to encourage and train designing skills in the engineering community in Malaysia. In the months leading up to IMESS 2019, participants submit designs based on the preset specs to us. The designs are either designed by our EDS software or other EDA tools out there. 3 finalist was short-listed with their designs fabricated by us (for FREE). During the 2nd day of IMESS 2019, the finalists presented their designs to the panel of judges. who evaluate the designs based on the simulation response and the measured one. Congratulations to Dr. Siti Zuraidah Ibrahim and her PhD student from UniMAP, Perlis for taking the first prize of RM1000 and a yearly license of FILPAL EDS Software.
